ACCESS MH Part 3 “What do I do now?” Assessment, Triage and Referral of Behavioral Crises in Primary Care Thursday, December 10th - 12:10 to 1:00PM Pediatric behavioral health emergencies where patients may present with potential threats or behaviors of harm to self or others are unfortunately all too common. Primary care providers that we have met with have identified a lack of training, resources and practice readiness to deal with these issues as a significant barrier to pursuing screening and addressing mental health issues in their practice. In this Webinar we will review some of the relevant statistics and presentations pertaining to these safety issues. We will review how behavioral health clinicians may assess these risks in a clinic, ED or EMPS service and then review how you may apply this to screen, assess risk, and triage. How to Unlock the Secrets of Baby Behavior for Parents and Caregivers. Strategies to Improve Parental Competence in Understanding their Infant's Cues, Crying and Sleep Patterns Tuesday, December 1st 12:10 – 1:00PM What is Secrets of Baby Behavior? SBB is a clinic intervention, developed by the University of California at Davis Human Lactation Center in partnership with the California WIC Program, to increase parents' knowledge of normal infant behavior, including sleep expectations and crying. SBB strategies help parents and caregivers respond appropriately to their infant's cues and crying and normalize their expectations for newborn sleep; thereby reducing the use of food as a behavior management approach. This leads to reductions in overfeeding, promotes longer breastfeeding duration, and decreases the early weight gain velocity linked to childhood obesity. Autism Update 2015: How pediatric professionals can ease the journey from childhood to adulthood Wednesday, October 28th 12:10 – 1:00PM Individuals on the Autism Spectrum present many challenges to pediatric providers. From the time of diagnosis, families should be educated on what to expect over the lifespan and how to plan for the various transitions that occur. Due to evolution of legislation, changing service models, and shrinking supports, it is even more critical that families start planning as soon as possible. The pediatrician plays an important role in educating the family and advocating for appropriate services. The purpose of this talk is to assist the pediatric provider in this endeavor. Early Brain Development How Promoting Literacy is Key to Early Brain and Child Development Speaker: Dipesh Navsaris, MPH, MSHS, PA, MS(LIS), MD Tuesday, Feb. 24th 12:10 – 1:00PM Promoting literacy is key to early brain and child development. Health providers trained in the developmental strategies of early literacy can help parents and care-givers understand the importance of creating the right conditions for early childhood development. Our program will look at the early brain including the genetic prenatal and neurodevelopment factors. It will also talk about how socio economic environment affects the developing brain as well relationships. Why reading? Reading is the fundamental skill for learning. An early awareness by children that print conveys information can help unite the child’s oral language development and their initial attempts at reading and writing. Reach Out and Read prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with clinicians to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.
