Board of Directors and Officers

CT-AAP members are encouraged to consider running for the Board of Directors (BOD) this fall.  Please see the attached document that outlines the election procedure and timelines.  This document contains descriptions of the open positions: Chapter Vice President/President Elect, Chapter Treasurer, Chapter Secretary, 3 at-large BOD seats, 1 pediatric medical specialist BOD seat, and 1 pediatric surgical specialist BOD seat.

Interested parties should submit the following in the form below:

  • A statement identifying what position they are interested in and that they are able to commit to the time requirements of the post.
  • Verify that they are members in good standing with the Chapter and National AAP
  • Provide a photo/head shot
  • Current CV
  • A one-two paragraph bio sketch

Nominations are due August 12, 2022 at 5 PM

CT-AAP Board and Officer Positions:

Chapter Officers and the five At-Large Board Members make up the voting members of the Chapter Board of Directors.  As such, they are responsible for setting the Chapter’s budget, hiring the Chapter Executive, and helping to determine the direction of the Chapter’s membership, advocacy, and educational activities.  They are expected to participate in (and help lead) the Chapter’s various committees and to help represent the Chapter as needed.  Positions are meant to be accessible to pediatricians of all backgrounds, but nominees are encouraged to speak to current office holders in determining their ability to fill position’s responsibilities.

Fixed meetings:

The Board of Directors meets four times a year for 2-3 hours in the evening.  Chapter Officers hold bi-weekly one hour calls with the Executive Director’s team.

The President shall be elected for a term of two years and may be re-elected once. The duties of the President shall be as follows: 1. To uphold the Constitution and Bylaws of the American Academy of Pediatrics at the chapter level. 2. To promote chapter activities; to organize and conduct appropriate meetings and committee projects. 3. To represent the Chapter at District and National meetings, including the Annual Leadership Forum. 4. To be responsible for good communication and liaison between the chapter constituency and the Board of Directors. 5. To file the Chapter Annual Report with the District Vice Chair and National AAP To have and keep up-to-date a functional set of Corporate bylaws. 6. To perform such other duties as may be described elsewhere in the Bylaws of the American Academy of Pediatrics or be determined by the members of the Board of Directors. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Chapter, shall be the Chair of the Board of Directors, and shall appoint all committees and liaison representatives, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. The President shall be an ex-officio member of all committees.

The Vice President shall assist the President in the performance of their duties and perform other functions as delegated by the President, Board of Directors or Academy Executive Board. The Vice President shall serve in the President's absence or fill any unexpired term if necessary. The Vice President shall be elected for a term of two years and may be re-elected once.

This position is considered preparatory for serving as Chapter President.  It requires a significant time commitment, including working with the Executive Director, Chapter Lobbyist, Committee Chairs and rest of the BOD.  The Vice President frequently takes on media relations and lobbying roles for the Chapter- a nominee should be interested in public speaking.

The Secretary shall perform the ordinary duties of that office, keep records, send notices, and send a roster of Chapter members to each member if requested. They shall notify each member at least three (3) weeks before the annual meeting of the nominations by the nominating committee. The Secretary shall be elected for two years and may be re-elected twice.

The Treasurer shall perform the ordinary duties of that office, and as such, shall oversee the collection of all dues and assessments. The Treasurer shall oversee the payment of all bills authorized by the Board of Directors. They shall make a financial report to the Board of Directors not less than quarterly, and at the annual meeting of the Chapter. The Treasurer shall be elected for two years and may be re-elected twice. 

A knowledge of accounting is not necessary for this position.  In addition to the meetings outlined above, the candidate must be able to commit approximately one hour monthly to review the chapter finances with the executive director, and approximately 2 hours the week before the quarterly Board meeting to review the financial reports and prepare to report to the Board of Directors.

Five elected at-large members of the Board of Directors, one of whom is a pediatric medical subspecialist and one of whom is a pediatric surgical subspecialist. Officers and at large members are elected for two years, and may be re-elected twice (serve up to 6 years).
