The Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has over 600 active members committed to both improving the health and safety of Connecticut's children and supporting those who provide care to these children.
About our name
Hezekiah Beardsley Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is only one of 59 state or regional chapters of the AAP that bears the name of a person.
There was a Hezekiah Beardsley Pediatric Club in Connecticut as early as 1935 that later became the Hezekiah Beardsley Pediatric Section of the Connecticut Medical Society.
When the Connecticut Chapter of the AAP was organized in 1948, the Hezekiah Beardsley eponym of the pre-existing associations was retained.

President's Message
Prioritizing the Provider
Dear Colleagues,
As pediatricians, we are hardwired to put others first. We navigate the complexities of clinical care, the anxieties of parents, and the evolving landscape of healthcare policy—often at the expense of our own well-being. However, we cannot pour from an empty cup. To provide the best care for Connecticut’s children, we must first ensure we are caring for ourselves.
The CT-AAP is committed to fostering a community where physician wellness isn’t just a buzzword, but a foundational practice. We recognize the very real pressures of administrative burdens, long hours, and the emotional toll of our calling.
Tools for YOUR Toolkit
We don't expect you to navigate these challenges alone. There are robust frameworks designed specifically to support you at every stage of your career:
- Peer Support: Connect with chapter members to share strategies and find solidarity. Visit our CT-AAP website for local chapter updates.
- Advocacy: We continue to fight for systemic changes that reduce the red tape causing burnout. Stay informed on our CT-AAP Advocacy webpage.
- National Resources: Lean on the extensive work done by the national academy to support your mental and professional health.
The AAP offers extensive pediatrician wellness resources to combat burnout, featuring a dedicated Physician Wellbeing site.
Moving Forward Together
Burnout isn’t a personal failure; it’s often a systemic challenge. By utilizing these resources and staying connected as a chapter, we can advocate for a healthier work-life balance and a more sustainable future for our profession.
I encourage you to take five minutes today to visit the Physician Wellbeing site and find one resource—whether a podcast, an article, or a curriculum guide—that resonates with you.
Thank you for everything you do for the children of Connecticut. Please, remember to take care of yourselves with that same dedication.
Be well,

Steven C. Rogers, MD, MS
President, CT-AAP
