Biosketch

Dr. Jody Terranova has served as the Vice-President/President-elect for the CT Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for the past 2 years.  She has been the Chapter’s Immunization Representative since 2019 and worked closely with our chapter lobbyist and state legislators to pass the bill removing non-medical exemptions for school immunizations. In recognition of her efforts she received the Special Achievement Award from the Chapter in 2020.

She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and provides care to patients in Hartford where she is the Director of the Burgdorf Pediatric Clinic.  She is also the Director of Faculty Consulting at UConn Health and the Faculty Representative to UConn Health’s Board of Directors. She has been involved at various levels of medical education throughout her career serving as a teacher, preceptor, mentor and advisor.

Jody is a public servant and committed to serving her community- professionally and personally.  She was elected to the Windsor Town Council from 2011-2019 and was the Deputy Mayor for 6 years. She was recruited to run again in 2021 and was reappointed as Chair of the Finance Committee upon her re-election.

In May 2022 she received her Master of Public Administration from the University of Connecticut with the goal of combining her interest in governance with her professional skills to become a stronger leader and advocate.  She has served on multiple committees in her professional capacity including the Admissions Committee and the Graduate Medical Education Committee at the medical school, as well as the Referring Provider Advisory Board and the Public Policy Council at CT Children’s Medical Center.

As a representative of the CT-AAP she was appointed to the Scientific Subcommittee of the Governor’s COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Board and the Advisory Committee on Medical Exemptions- where she was subsequently elected chair by the members.  Jody would appreciate the opportunity to continue serving the CT-AAP as the Chapter President, to continue advocacy work on issues related to children’s health and wellbeing, and to strengthen the Chapter’s presence across the state.
